Developing and sharing ArtAbilities

When MBS Communications first got its start, we called upon local artists and photographers to create the images that first appeared on our reminder and sympathy cards. Over the past 20-plus years, we’ve been blessed to have artists throughout the country and the world share their amazing talents with us.

In 2013, we were fortunate to be able to “come home” and collaborate with a group of local artists participating in Community Support Systems’ wonderful art program.

Located in Teutopolis, IL, CSS is just a hop, skip and jump away from our office in Altamont on the other side of Effingham County. CSS’ mission is to provide support and resources for people with disabilities.

One of the many ways that goal is accomplished is with an art program from which our ArtAbilities line of cards originated. A portion of ArtAbilities’ proceeds is donated to CSS and 100 percent of that donation supports the art program.

Currently, two instructors work with class participants utilizing brushes, sponges, palette knives, and whatever other tools that best accommodate their styles and needs.  Painting time is offered twice a month for 39 artists, with more on a waiting list.

Be on the lookout for the lovely new additions like those pictured here that we’ll soon be adding to our ArtAbilities sympathy cards.

We are in awe of the spectacular artwork created by these talented folks and hope you will be too.

As always, we thank you for your continued support in helping this great program thrive!
